Trophy Babine River Steelhead

with

Lani Waller

September 3-10, 2009

Silver Hilton presents a special event for our 2009 season- a week with Lani Waller at the Main Camp of Silver Hilton, September 3-10, 2009. This six day seminar includes fishing time and instruction from Lani - an opportunity to learn first hand, the personal "tricks of the trade." Both single handed rod and double handed strategies are a part of the program.

This event includes six full days of guided angling with the expert guides of Silver Hilton, on the famous wilderness section of the lower Babine River, all meals and lodging and round trip air from Smithers to lodge aboard our private helicopter charter. All anglers who attend will also become a part of Lani’s booking seniority system for permanent reservations at Silver Hilton.

This week should produce warm water temperatures in the mid-fifties and aggressive steelhead, which rise eagerly to “waking” dry flies. Classic “grease lined” fishing with wets also produce as will the “down and deep” angling with sinking lines.

Space is limited to eight anglers. Price: $5,500 US per angler. Space is limited to eight anglers.

"Secret Season" at the Main Camp

October 29 - November 5, 2009

This week offers hardy steelhead anglers an opportunity to take trophy Babine steelhead with little chance of lost fishing time due to poor water conditions. The Babine is low and clear at this time and stays that way, as precipitation almost always comes in the form of snow which has no effect on water clarity.

It can be cold however, and dry fly fishing has little relevance but wet fly anglers have access to all sections of all the pools due to the low and clear water-something denied to the earlier weeks.

Lani has been fishing this week for over two decades and brings not only his enthusiasm to the river, but a knowledge he shares with those who accompany him. Techniques employed at this time of the year include “grease- line” angling for fish close to shore and slow, deep presentations with wet tip lines for those steelhead which lie in midstream.

As much as anything however is the mood and spirit of the Babine at this time of the year. There is an almost mystical sense to the currents and forest landscapes as they prepare for winter- a peaceful quality not found at any other time of the year. The pace is steady and deliberate and the light on the river seems to glow. Trophy fish are here at this time, and this week has produced as many large fish over twenty pounds for Lani as any other week.

Price is $5,500 per angler. Space is limited to eight anglers.
